A PSA - I want to remind you of something that must be known, about antisemitism and the current attack on Israel.
Antisemitic people have been using "Israel" as an excuse and justification for their action and their desire to kill all Jews. This is something that must be known and remembered. It has been going on for years and years, long before anything that is currently happening - and it has been proven, attested, reported and proudly revendicated (at least in France).
Antisemitic people will justify their actions of insulting Jews or hitting Jews in the street because "They must be from Israel" or "They are probably supporting Israel". Antisemitic movements claim that all Jews must be kicked out, sent away, or imprisoned "To make them pay for what Israel did", or "In the name of the victims of Israel". Antisemitic groups explain their desire to recreate the genocide of Jews by "the existence of Israel".
And I am talking here for French antisemitism, enacted by French people, upon French Jews born in France and who lived their whole life in France. For those people hellbent on hating the Jews to the point of madness, "Israel" isn't the name of a country or a government or a socio-political actor - they reinvent, in their sick little minds, this name as somehow being synonymous with the Jewish community as a whole. American, African, European Jews - for them it is all "Israel that sent their supporters and agents in foreign countries". There is a real mass-hysteria and shared obsessive madness that uses Israel as their main "justification". I am using France as an example - but we know it is happening in many other European countries, and on the online discourse and Internet spaces.
So if you ever start talking about or listening to people who want to approach the whole current conflict, and the recent attacks on Israel - remember that a lot of antisemitic people will try to use this or reinvent this all, they will try to turn this into a conflict "against the Jews" and they will try to push antisemitic and genocidal views into the discourse. So stay aware, stay intelligent, stay informed (and well-informed), stay comparative, and stay critical.
The greatest irony is that a few weeks ago there was an official investigation and report about the widespread antisemitism in French universities, and the fact that Israel was used by the antisemitic offenders as the main reason for their actions was clearly attested and explained in this report. And now, we are going to see live these people trying to enact this warped logic to reinterpret what is currently going on.
